54 - Helping SWWOP provide support for vulnerable women involved in street prostitution - Sept 2021

We are pleased to be able to share news of donation 54.  Our £500 is going to  Sheffield Working Women’s Opportunities Project (SWWOP)  who provide intensive and practical support to a socially isolated and vulnerable group of women involved in street prostitution. A number of the women they support have very limited access to support from other agencies. This can be due to the relationships they find themselves in or simply the fact that they aren’t ready to contemplate recovery just yet.  SWWOP’s outreach van goes out 3 times a week and provides a warm and comfortable environment for their clients to grab a cuppa, some condoms and something to eat. Our donation will allow SWWOP to support these women and provide them with clean underwear, warm clothing and a food parcel. Although we are aware this won’t change their clients’ situation, it will go towards making their day just that little bit brighter and we are pleased to be able to help. SWWOP and their clients told us how gratefu

His current situation is untenable and the set up he copes with hinders his independence at home, and also literally puts a strain on his wife who has to lift and transfer him. He cannot get his wheelchair up to the sink either.  He has been assessed for a wet room by Barnsley Council and he has to pay a contribution of £2400. Unfortunately in the assessment process they can only take into consideration income and not expenditure. The couple are struggling already managing debts. They have reached out to various charities, including SHASBAH, who have given what they can, but remain £600 short of their target. Our member from Shasbah tells us she has personally met both
