66 - Contribution towards 'Food and Fuel for Local Children' campaign - Dec 2021

As promised here we are back with more donation news *number 66* as we do our best to respond to the many nominations we are receiving this month.  Thank you so much to anyone who has put a little extra in this Christmas - really unexpected, but much appreciated and allows us to do a little bit more.

We are all so aware of the devastating fuel poverty affecting more households than ever this winter and we are very happy to be able to support a wonderful campaign Family Voice are running to directly help local families who cannot afford to heat, light and power their homes.

We have given £500 to The 'Food and Fuel for Local Children' campaign.

This, from Family Voice, explains why it is so important they raise additional funds this winter:

We believe that every child has the right to a warm, dry home that is heated and has electricity with access to three meals a day. The gap between the richest in society and the rest of the population has widened further during the decade 2010-2020, and that was before Covid.
We know this is not good for any society - a more equal distribution of wealth creates a happier and healthier population.

People at either ends of the scale struggle to understand those furthest from their situation.
In Sheffield today there are thousands of families living in poverty. In October, 15 million customers in the UK faced an increase in their fuel bills - the same month Universal Credit was reduced. This cut to universal credit was opposed by many charities, opposition parties, and some Conservative MPs.

Simply, this means that almost one in five of all households have been pushed into poverty. Many local families cannot afford to heat, light and power their homes. Many of the mums who come to Family Voice for support suffer ill-health, stress and anxiety from unaffordable fuel and food bills.

Over the winter months we want children and families who work with us to be able to have the lights on, the central heating on and be warm in their beds at night having eaten a decent hot meal.

Your donation will go direct to the families we know who are most in need, and will literally light up their lives!

This is the link to the fundraiser - please share it if you can to help them reach their target.

We love this nomination and hope it will help families get through these school holidays a little easier.
