92 - new carpets for a new safe home - Sept 2022

With donation 92 we have helped another woman, known as S, who is starting out in new accommodation after a period spent in the women’s refuge. S is in receipt of Universal Credit, but has no savings and moved into her new flat with nothing but a few belongings. To make her empty property more comfortable she really needed to get some carpets and we were pleased to be able to help with £500 towards them. The new carpets have made such a difference to her new home. We wish her well as she settles into her new safe space.

This week we have been delighted to help Sheffield Working Women's Opportunities Project (SWWOP), an organisation that provides intensive support to anyone involved in sex work in and around Sheffield. https://swwop.org The work they do is fabulous, offering women a range of invaluable support through weekday drop ins and an evening outreach van. They have a dedicated housing link worker, a substance use worker, access to a GP, provide food parcels, essential toiletries, condoms and offer STI testing. 206 - Bus pass to allow young woman to travel to college - May 2025

We are pleased to be back with news of donation  206 This latest donation of £500 has gone to help a young woman who has just received her refugee status. This always sounds like a really exciting time but actually it is really hard - being evicted from your accommodation, having to fill in zillions of forms, starting to go to the job centre, applying for universal credit - there's a lot of stressful things to do!  She is particularly young and arrived on her own following traumatic events in her home country. Her mental health has been suffering but she is now doing quite well and wants to attend English classes. She has signed up at Sheffield College and started attending  - but they have run out of money for bus fares that they usually provide for students. 172 - Buying gym clothes for teenage asylum seekers - Aug 2024

  We are pleased to be back with news of donation   172 . With this week's donation we are grateful to our member who linked us up with Mums United ( www.mums-united.com ) , a local group who specialise in helping the most vulnerable  young people, women and groups in Sheffield against rising youth violence and drug exploitation.  Mums United have been working with a group of 17 year old asylum seekers, carrying out sessions to improve their self esteem and give them hope that this is a safe place to live.   They have recently started to access gyms within the Sheffield City Trust and we were asked if we could fund some gym clothing for them which will allow them to feel more comfortable attending sessions.   We were really happy to help and have sent £500 for Mums United to get suitable clothing for the group and hope the young people enjoy accessing the gyms in Sheffield.
