130 - A donation to a Random Acts of Kindness for Need not Greed - July 2023

This week one of our members asked if we would help another group   Random Acts of Kindness for Need not Greed .  This is a very proactive  Facebook group which is trying to encourage simple acts of kindness, based across the hills in Manchester.  Members can offer or seek help, but the organisers are finding there is more demand than their group can offer and they are increasingly finding families asking for help with the cost of living.   They have recently been struggling to meet the demand and our £500 will help them support a lot of families. They have promised to give us an update on how our donation has helped, but we know they will ensure £500 goes a long way! We know how important these local community groups are and salute the volunteers who run them.  Seeing so much need and being unable to act is heartbreaking, so we are happy to help with one of our donations and thank our member for telling us about the group. Times are tough for so many.  Remember our funds are there to

129 - Paying for someone to attend a professional conference as she tries to return to work - July 2023

We are pleased to be back with news of donation 129, where we have sent £495 to J. J has experienced significant family trauma and is now at the stage where she is re-establishing herself and trying to rebuild her life and her career. Previously she had worked and studied hard to attain an advanced educational qualification, but because of significant trauma for her and her children and associated child care issues, she has not been able to get full time employment in her area of interest.  Her community worker approached us to ask if 500 Together could pay the cost for J to attend a professional conference in her area of interest taking in place in Sheffield.  To many of us, having access to and attending a conference and networking with colleagues is a regular part of our working lives that we don’t always stop and think about, whereas for this recipient, it was out of reach.  So 500 together was very happy to step in and make this happen. We wish J all the best for the future and ho

128 - A new carpet and clothes for teenager - July 2023

This week we have sent £500 to a family to buy a new bedroom carpet and some much needed clothes for their teenage daughter. We have agreed not to share the specific circumstances surrounding this family, but are grateful to our member for their nomination and for the support they and their local community continue to give this family. We send them our very best wishes and hope things can start to get better soon. Your contributions to this group really do make a difference to the people we support - thank you all so much!

127 - Support for a family after a devastating house fire - July 2023

The wonderful things we can collectively do continue this week with donation   127 .  We are always so grateful when you take the time to send us your nominations - it is fantastic that because of your support we can help families like this week’s recipient. We were asked by one of our members, who is a trustee for a small charity called Hope  https://www.hope-sy.org. uk  if we might be able to help a family she is supporting. The charity supports people who are bereaved by traumatic experiences – car collision, drowning or fire. They offer 121 support and peer support groups and have a support dog that is being trained to work with people with PTSD. This family had recently lost everything through a severe fire, smoke and water damage. A house fire ripped through their home. 2 of the family members were able to escape along with the family’s dog, who ran away. However, they both suffered smoke inhalation and were on oxygen and taken by ambulance to hospital, for resuscitation and sm
