138 - Donation to local charity Always an Alternative and their mobile youth club - October 2023




Donation 138 goes to Always An Alternative, a Sheffield based charity that aims to challenge the mindset of young people and support them to make safe and positive life choices. 


Our £500 goes towards the mobile youth club that they are setting up, specifically to buy a speaker and put towards the vehicle wrapping (graphics on the outside of the van). Ant Olaseinde from Always an Alternative does amazing work delivering talks and workshops around the dangers of carrying knives in schools, colleges and universities. Always an Alternative also run free youth clubs twice a week and free flag American football once a week to engage young people and teach them positive life skills. Once up and running, the mobile youth club will enable Always an Alternative to get out and about to even more young people in Sheffield.

  One of our members asked if we could help S, who recently collapsed in pain, ending up in A&E with a bulging disc in her lower back.  Now back home, she is on crutches, in  immense pain with the disc and sciatica so she can't work - which is a big problem for them as she is self employed.  Her husband works shifts in a local hospital and is taking on more shifts to cover their bills.  She also has problems with her son who has adhd and under support as he often struggles to be able to go to school. 198- a donation to Read Easy Sheffield to help train new coaches - March 2025

One of our members asked if we could support Read Easy Sheffield, a small, local organisation he has been volunteering with.   Read Easy Sheffield aims to improve adult literacy in Sheffield by recruiting, training, organising and supporting volunteer coaches to help adult members of the public to improve their reading. These coaches work 1:1 with learners to assess their current reading standard then deliver individually tailored coaching to help them to improve their literacy.  They have established and are working on establishing new partnerships with local organisations who refer learners to them, including libraries, housing associations and further education institutions. 56 - repairing window after break in at St Wilfrid's Centre - Sept 2021

Our 56th donation goes to St Wilfrid's Centre a well known charity in Sheffield that supports vulnerable, isolated and homeless adults. Sadly there was recently a break-in at the Centre, so 500 Together has donated £190 to meet the costs of replacing the window that was severely damaged in the break-in. The charity say they are extremely grateful to everyone from 500 Together, and send a big thank you for our help. Repairing the window has meant that clients can feel secure and comfortable again and it also means the Centre doesn’t have to use vital funds on repairing the window and can use it to support the people who need help instead.
