157 - Supporting Mondo Radio with new equipment - April 2024

A big thanks to our member who told us about  Mondo Radio, a community radio station and workshop/event space based in Sheffield. It is a grassroots organisation that aims to address the underrepresentation of marginalised individuals and communities in the local music industry.


Mondo Radio operates on a volunteer-led basis, with a committee of dedicated individuals overseeing its operations. The station has a team of 60+ resident DJs and producers who assist in the day-to-day activities.

Mondo Radio also organises various events and workshops, contributing to the development of the music scene in Sheffield. The £500 will go towards funding studio upgrades, namely camera/video recording equipment which will allow the organisation to reach a bigger new audience through online audiovisual content which will allow the organisation to reach a younger audience, whose main point of contact with the online works is through audiovisual content. This will mean that their other activities including developmental music workshops and courses are easier to access for a young audience. 

We do love the variety of the nominations we receive and are always pleased to be able to support not just individuals and families, but also projects like this, where we know our donation will make a big difference to the organisation and allow them to have a much wider impact as a result.

For our latest donation we are sending £500 to Francine at  Rehouse to Rehome , a Sheffield based charity supporting and empowering victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse. Our £500 will go towards buying a cooker/fridge/ washing machine for a family that Francine is helping to rehome.  Francine tells us that she has seen a significant rise in requests for help since the beginning of the pandemic. Our donation has been very gratefully received and Francine has kindly sent us this powerful message explaining why: Not having essential household goods often becomes a real and practical barrier that prevents a survivor from leaving an abusive relationship. 5. Goldigger Trust - helping young people develop positive self esteem - Jan 2020

This week we are pleased to be able to give £250 to Golddigger Trust.   The nomination came from one of our members whose daughter & family have benefitted from Golddigger’s support. Golddigger is a small Sheffield based charity that offers support for young people in developing positive self esteem and well-being, to allow them to feel more secure and aspire to achieve more.  Their name comes from their aim of ‘digging out the gold’  - the worth and true value of the young people they work with, who may be struggling themselves to see their value due to poor self esteem & negative circumstances.   They offer drop in sessions as well as 1:1 counselling, peer mentorship and courses to support young people aged 11-18 years.  At a time when it is very hard to access the Children & Adolescent Mental Health Service due to such high demand, the availability of a service like Golddigger is invaluable and we are genuinely so pleased to be able to send them a donation.   Golddigger

135 - Walking stick and 4 months bus pass for someone struggling to leave house - Oct 2023

 T his nomination comes from someone who we once helped out with one of our early donations when she was having a tough time.  A couple of months ago, we were delighted to hear things had improved for her and that she had wanted to join our group as a member.  Honestly, that just made us so happy! She asked if she could nominate someone who she had been trying to support, and told us about her friend who had suffered a major heart attack a year and a half ago.  He had to have 2 stents fitted and then months later got diagnosed with MS.  She told us how it's really affected him both physically and mentally. He rarely leaves the house as it’s a struggle for him to walk distances. He has become reluctant to get out to do his shopping and see his friends so he’s always stuck in the house.  She was keen to find a way to try to encourage him to get out more and asked if she could access a donation to buy him a walking stick and a bus pass.
