160 - Supply of sleeping bags for Ben's Centre - May 2024


Donation 160 has allowed us to send £500 to Ben's Centre - a  fabulous local charity that aims to provide a safe space and an open hand to those who suffer through substance misuse and its associated barriers.  They began as a Day Centre for individuals with alcohol misuse, however, over the years have evolved and in addition to the Day Centre, they now run tenancy support, training and education programs as well as social and hobby groups from the centre.  They also run daily outreach to get to individuals needing support on the streets of Sheffield.  https://www.benscentre.org


A few weeks ago they ran an urgent appeal, having completely run out of sleeping bags, which meant having to turn down requests from rough sleeping clients who they knew really needed one.  We are pleased to have been able to send £500 to allow them to build their stocks back up.  


Ben's Centre have told us how these sleeping bags go a really long way in helping rough sleeping clients to stay  warm, get some sleep and survive on the streets.  They sent you all a massive thank you!

For our latest donation we are sending £500 to Francine at  Rehouse to Rehome , a Sheffield based charity supporting and empowering victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse. 5. Goldigger Trust - helping young people develop positive self esteem - Jan 2020

This week we are pleased to be able to give £250 to Golddigger Trust.   The nomination came from one of our members whose daughter & family have benefitted from Golddigger’s support. Golddigger is a small Sheffield based charity that offers support for young people in developing positive self esteem and well-being, to allow them to feel more secure and aspire to achieve more.  Their name comes from their aim of ‘digging out the gold’  - the worth and true value of the young people they work with, who may be struggling themselves to see their value due to poor self esteem & negative circumstances.   They offer drop in sessions as well as 1:1 counselling, peer mentorship and courses to support young people aged 11-18 years.  At a time when it is very hard to access the Children & Adolescent Mental Health Service due to such high demand, the availability of a service like Golddigger is invaluable and we are genuinely so pleased to be able to send them a donation.   Golddigger

135 - Walking stick and 4 months bus pass for someone struggling to leave house - Oct 2023

 T his nomination comes from someone who we once helped out with one of our early donations when she was having a tough time.  A couple of months ago, we were delighted to hear things had improved for her and that she had wanted to join our group as a member.  Honestly, that just made us so happy! She asked if she could nominate someone who she had been trying to support, and told us about her friend who had suffered a major heart attack a year and a half ago.  He had to have 2 stents fitted and then months later got diagnosed with MS.  She told us how it's really affected him both physically and mentally. He rarely leaves the house as it’s a struggle for him to walk distances. He has become reluctant to get out to do his shopping and see his friends so he’s always stuck in the house.  She was keen to find a way to try to encourage him to get out more and asked if she could access a donation to buy him a walking stick and a bus pass.
