200 - Help to provide care for a sick mum on discharge from hospital - April 2025

 A big day in the 500 together story as we tell you about our 200th donation!  Thank you all so much for your help in enabling us to have supported so many individuals, families and local organisations.


One of our members asked if we could send £500 to support a mum who has developed an illness that has left her unable to physically look after her children. When she was rushed to hospital, a friend (who has her own children) looked after her children on a temporary basis.


Despite being unable to walk, cook, dress or wash without help, she has been discharged from hospital. 


Community support groups are trying to get proper care in place, but they are facing a 4 week wait. With our £500 they have been able to arrange for a trusted professional carer to go in to help in the meantime. Hopefully this will support the family in their time of need and the required services will come into place sooner than 4 weeks. 


Another occasion when we were able to step in and provide an immediate donation to help at a time of crisis. Thanks to your regular contributions we can do this and we know from our recipients and the groups supporting them just how invaluable these donations are.


Thank you all for helping 500 together reach this milestone.

  One of our members asked if we could help S, who recently collapsed in pain, ending up in A&E with a bulging disc in her lower back.  Now back home, she is on crutches, in  immense pain with the disc and sciatica so she can't work - which is a big problem for them as she is self employed.  Her husband works shifts in a local hospital and is taking on more shifts to cover their bills.  She also has problems with her son who has adhd and under support as he often struggles to be able to go to school. 198- a donation to Read Easy Sheffield to help train new coaches - March 2025

One of our members asked if we could support Read Easy Sheffield, a small, local organisation he has been volunteering with.   Read Easy Sheffield aims to improve adult literacy in Sheffield by recruiting, training, organising and supporting volunteer coaches to help adult members of the public to improve their reading. These coaches work 1:1 with learners to assess their current reading standard then deliver individually tailored coaching to help them to improve their literacy.  They have established and are working on establishing new partnerships with local organisations who refer learners to them, including libraries, housing associations and further education institutions. They are affiliated to the national charity Read Easy UK, and follow their well-proven methods.  Improved literacy skills impact people in all aspects of life, including employment, physical and mental health and connection with their community. 56 - repairing window after break in at St Wilfrid's Centre - Sept 2021

Our 56th donation goes to St Wilfrid's Centre a well known charity in Sheffield that supports vulnerable, isolated and homeless adults. Sadly there was recently a break-in at the Centre, so 500 Together has donated £190 to meet the costs of replacing the window that was severely damaged in the break-in. The charity say they are extremely grateful to everyone from 500 Together, and send a big thank you for our help. Repairing the window has meant that clients can feel secure and comfortable again and it also means the Centre doesn’t have to use vital funds on repairing the window and can use it to support the people who need help instead.
