202 - To help set up a gardening project - April 2025

 Donation 202 goes to our member who is setting up a gardening and wellbeing session for people who've been forced to flee their home countries due to violence, war and abuse and live with huge amounts of trauma and are often very isolated from each other and the wider community. As many are not allowed to work, some also have a lot of time and want to be contributing something back. Many have spent time farming and growing things in their home countries but cannot access any space like this to grow things now.


To positively address this, our member, who works with people of this background in their ‘day job’ wants to run sessions in July and August, where 10-12 participants will gather. 

Our £500 will help fund seeds, plant pots, compost, some basic tools, travel costs and some food and drinks so that participants can also have time to relax and socialise. 

We wish them the best of luck with this project.

39 - Support for victims & survivors of Domestic Abuse - Rehouse to Rehome - February 2021

For our latest donation we are sending £500 to Francine at  Rehouse to Rehome , a Sheffield based charity supporting and empowering victims and survivors of Domestic Abuse. Our £500 will go towards buying a cooker/fridge/ washing machine for a family that Francine is helping to rehome.  Francine tells us that she has seen a significant rise in requests for help since the beginning of the pandemic. Our donation has been very gratefully received and Francine has kindly sent us this powerful message explaining why: Not having essential household goods often becomes a real and practical barrier that prevents a survivor from leaving an abusive relationship. 197 - Help with holiday costs for a family - March 2025

  With donation 197 we have helped a family of 4 have a much needed break. One of our members told us about M, the dad in the family, who has had lifelong diabetes. This has led to kidney failure, as well as other complications including sight loss and terrible infections.  Christmas was a particularly hard time for them as it came to a medical crisis. M needed a port installed in order to have dialysis. However his veins wouldn’t heal enough to support it. There was a concern that he would not be well enough to undergo dialysis at all. And this would ultimately jeopardise any chance of a kidney transplant, which is their end goal.  Thankfully recently, his port healed and dialysis was able to start. This gave the family back some hope that they might have a chance of establishing a new normal.
