216 - Every day essentials for a family recently arrived in Sheffield - August 2025

 With this donation of £500 we have been able to help a refugee family with 6 children who have recently arrived in Sheffield.


They have been housed temporarily but don't have basics like large saucepans for cooking for 8, a hoover, towels...and so much more. They are struggling to pay for food and necessary bus fares.   Everything is just very difficult.  Our member, who is involved in supporting them, asked if we could help.

We have sent £500 to help them get some of the essentials they need, things they will also be able to keep and take with them to their next house, as well as being able to use some of the money for groceries.

We were pleased to help, knowing they will be supported to get what they need.

We are always so grateful to the organisations out there who work so hard to support families like this, who arrive from such awful conditions and face so many unexpected and unknown challenges in their new home.  The resilience of these families is extraordinary.  We wish them all the best as they settle here in Sheffield.

206 - Bus pass to allow young woman to travel to college - May 2025

We are pleased to be back with news of donation  206 This latest donation of £500 has gone to help a young woman who has just received her refugee status. This always sounds like a really exciting time but actually it is really hard - being evicted from your accommodation, having to fill in zillions of forms, starting to go to the job centre, applying for universal credit - there's a lot of stressful things to do!  She is particularly young and arrived on her own following traumatic events in her home country. Her mental health has been suffering but she is now doing quite well and wants to attend English classes. She has signed up at Sheffield College and started attending  - but they have run out of money for bus fares that they usually provide for students. 172 - Buying gym clothes for teenage asylum seekers - Aug 2024

  We are pleased to be back with news of donation   172 . With this week's donation we are grateful to our member who linked us up with Mums United ( www.mums-united.com ) , a local group who specialise in helping the most vulnerable  young people, women and groups in Sheffield against rising youth violence and drug exploitation.  Mums United have been working with a group of 17 year old asylum seekers, carrying out sessions to improve their self esteem and give them hope that this is a safe place to live.   They have recently started to access gyms within the Sheffield City Trust and we were asked if we could fund some gym clothing for them which will allow them to feel more comfortable attending sessions.   We were really happy to help and have sent £500 for Mums United to get suitable clothing for the group and hope the young people enjoy accessing the gyms in Sheffield.
