217 - Minibus hire to take Shelter clients on day trip - August 2025
With donation 217 we have been pleased to help our friends at Shelter organise an event for Recovery Month.
Each year Sheffield recovery community are involved with September’s Recovery month, a month of activities and events, to celebrate recovery, to raise the awareness about the possibility of recovery from substance use, promote the idea that recovery is possible for everyone and highlight the strengths of the recovery community in Sheffield.
Shelter has been involved with Recovery Month for a number of years and annually they arrange activities/workshops during the month for their clients and the wider recovery community. In recent years they have taken clients out to the Peak District and have shared this photo and experiences from a previous trip to Castleton in 2023.
“Such an amazing day with beautiful people. Really empowering being out in nature.”
“Really enjoyed the day, glad I came and met new friends, thanks to Shelter for planning the trip, brought me out of my comfort zone which is good.”
“I don’t think I’ll ever forget this day. It is a perfect way for me to have marked a huge personal milestone in my recovery”.
Their intention this year is to hold 2 craft workshops, organise a barge trip (Ethel Trust have kindly agreed to provide a free barge trip for their clients) and arrange a day trip to the Peak District. Last year they were unable to organise a day trip to the peak district due to lack of funds.
This year they wanted to ensure the trip could go ahead, and asked if we could contribute £500 which would allow them to take 12 clients to Castleton - the money would go towards hiring a mini bus, taking clients to a café for lunch, refreshments, and a visit to the caves.
We know how important these kinds of trips are, and were only too pleased to help. We hope everyone has a wonderful time.
