227 - Support for local charity Family Voice - November 2025
Our latest donation has allowed us to send £500 to the fabulous local organisation
Family Voice - Sheffield , who work with women in the Sharrow, Lowfield and Nether Edge area of Sheffield.
350 local migrant women come to Family Voice every year. About 60 come every week. Women come and find a safe space where they connect with others and build their confidence and skills.
Family Voice run about ten different courses - free, trauma informed, women only classes. And they provide about 16 hours of one to one support a week. They do all this on the equivalent of 3 full time posts. They really are exceptional value for money!
They also have a food social enterprise called Ammi's Kitchen a strengths based project which has, in the last year, given 1000 paid hours to chefs who have learnt culinary skills from generations of women before them. Trained chefs run a takeaway and a welcoming community lunch for all at their base at Common Ground Community Centre S7 1HA. We can highly recommend their food - check out https://ammiskitchensheffield.org and consider giving them a try!
When we started 500 together, Family Voice was one of our first members and we have been proud to have worked with them a number of times with donations for families needing specific support.
This time, however, our donation is for the organisation itself. Getting funding is increasingly tough for organisations like this, yet the work they do is simply invaluable. We really wanted to support them.
The £500 we have sent will relieve some pressure and help them provide one to one support - this work is fundamental in what they do because it's about listening and relationship building. The whole project is based on the trust that builds from personal connection with each other.
Family Voice asked us to send on their huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this support.
