239 - storage and a replacement washing machine - February 2026

One of our members told us about a mum of two children, who they are working with, helping to declutter and organise her home for it to become more airy to help to provide her child who has breathing difficulties, a clean and fresher living environment. They need some storage to help keep things tidy and easier to clean, so we were asked for funding to buy some sturdy shelving units. In addition we were asked if we could help buy a reconditioned washing machine because their old one has broken down. She has been taking her washing to her mum’s which means that dirty washing builds up, adding to the clutter. Her mum’s washing machine that she relied on has now also broken down so the need for her to have her own washing machine is now particularly urgent. We were pleased to send £500 to allow our member to help purchase these items for the family and know that she will be working with them to help get their home clean and tidy - which will benefit them all. Thank you to our member for sending us this thoughtful nomination. We are always pleased to help in these situations and wish the family well. Please keep the nominations coming and thank you all for your continued support which allows us to help wherever we can. It is always wonderful to see our collective pounds come together to make such a difference.

  One of our members asked if we could help S, who recently collapsed in pain, ending up in A&E with a bulging disc in her lower back.  Now back home, she is on crutches, in  immense pain with the disc and sciatica so she can't work - which is a big problem for them as she is self employed.  Her husband works shifts in a local hospital and is taking on more shifts to cover their bills.  She also has problems with her son who has adhd and under support as he often struggles to be able to go to school. 206 - Bus pass to allow young woman to travel to college - May 2025

We are pleased to be back with news of donation  206 This latest donation of £500 has gone to help a young woman who has just received her refugee status. This always sounds like a really exciting time but actually it is really hard - being evicted from your accommodation, having to fill in zillions of forms, starting to go to the job centre, applying for universal credit - there's a lot of stressful things to do!  She is particularly young and arrived on her own following traumatic events in her home country. Her mental health has been suffering but she is now doing quite well and wants to attend English classes. She has signed up at Sheffield College and started attending  - but they have run out of money for bus fares that they usually provide for students. 87 - Orthodontist treatment - July 2022

This week your wonderful donations allowed us to pay £140 orthodontic dental fees for a young woman who is currently living in a Sheffield women’s refuge, after fleeing Domestic Abuse. She has come to the UK on a spouse visa and has since had to escape from the domestic violence she was subjected to. She had orthodontic braces fitted in her country of origin, before her relocation here, but it had been more than five months since she had them checked and she was suffering increasing problems with them e.g., bleeding, constant pain etc. She has been struggling to get a dentist in Sheffield as they are not taking new patients. She was quoted totally unaffordable prices to be seen privately. Eventually with a lot of hard work and persistence, the refuge helped her find a dentist. The cost of the treatment to have her braces removed and be fitted for a retainer was £140, which we have happily paid.
