251 - Home starter packs for young people supported by Roundabout - May 2026

We are pleased to be able to tell you about donation 251, which has seen us give £500 to a wonderful local organisation called Roundabout. https://www.roundabouthomeless.org Roundabout is a Sheffield & Rotherham based youth housing charity committed to ending youth homelessness. They really believe that with a safe place to live and tailored support, a young person can progress to independence and successfully break the cycle of homelessness. The charity began in 1977 and has supported thousands of young people over the years. They now support over 500 young people aged 16-25 every day. No route to homelessness is the same and some young people just need a bit of support at a difficult time, but sadly the majority of young people Roundabout see have experienced an element of childhood trauma. Without intervention, it is this experience that can potentially carve the path that they follow for the rest of their lives. One of our members asked us if we could provide a donation to support the The Roundabout Dispersed Service, which provides high-quality semi-supported housing for young people aged 16-25 across the city. Our £500 donation will buy ‘home starter packs’ for eight young people beginning life in a new home. The packs are important because they give young people a fresh start, helping them turn a new place into a home while reminding them that they are supported, valued, and not alone, with people around them who genuinely care about their journey forward. Each pack will include a variety of essential items ranging from toiletries, bedding, kitchenware, and cleaning products. The contents will slightly vary depending on what the young people already have - Roundabout will try to tailor each home starter pack to suit their individual needs. We were absolutely delighted to help Roundabout who do fantastic local work. We wish the young people receiving the starter packs a very happy time in their new homes!

  One of our members asked if we could help S, who recently collapsed in pain, ending up in A&E with a bulging disc in her lower back.  Now back home, she is on crutches, in  immense pain with the disc and sciatica so she can't work - which is a big problem for them as she is self employed.  Her husband works shifts in a local hospital and is taking on more shifts to cover their bills.  She also has problems with her son who has adhd and under support as he often struggles to be able to go to school. 206 - Bus pass to allow young woman to travel to college - May 2025

We are pleased to be back with news of donation  206 This latest donation of £500 has gone to help a young woman who has just received her refugee status. This always sounds like a really exciting time but actually it is really hard - being evicted from your accommodation, having to fill in zillions of forms, starting to go to the job centre, applying for universal credit - there's a lot of stressful things to do!  She is particularly young and arrived on her own following traumatic events in her home country. Her mental health has been suffering but she is now doing quite well and wants to attend English classes. She has signed up at Sheffield College and started attending  - but they have run out of money for bus fares that they usually provide for students. 87 - Orthodontist treatment - July 2022

This week your wonderful donations allowed us to pay £140 orthodontic dental fees for a young woman who is currently living in a Sheffield women’s refuge, after fleeing Domestic Abuse. She has come to the UK on a spouse visa and has since had to escape from the domestic violence she was subjected to. She had orthodontic braces fitted in her country of origin, before her relocation here, but it had been more than five months since she had them checked and she was suffering increasing problems with them e.g., bleeding, constant pain etc. She has been struggling to get a dentist in Sheffield as they are not taking new patients. She was quoted totally unaffordable prices to be seen privately. Eventually with a lot of hard work and persistence, the refuge helped her find a dentist. The cost of the treatment to have her braces removed and be fitted for a retainer was £140, which we have happily paid.
