65 - Buying a new pushchair for mum and toddler - Dec 2021

Image
Today we are pleased to share news of donation 65 - £150 to get a new pushchair for a single mum.   Our member told us about her friend who lives with her little boy, having escaped a violent marriage.  She has very little money and has just had to spend most of what she has on her application for British citizenship.  Her pushchair has broken and because her son has a tendency to run off when they are out and about, she has been unable to go out for fear of him escaping and getting into danger.  She uses her pushchair for shopping trips as well, so it has been very limiting not to have one, and she could not afford a new one. We were pleased to be able to help and took a new, sturdy pushchair to her this week.  She and her son were delighted and wanted to express their huge thanks to you all.   Once she has citizenship she is hoping to get back to work - and hopes one day to be in a position to join our group herself. We wish her all the best for her future here in Sheffield.

64 - Buying tv and licence for resettling Afghan family - Dec 2021

With this donation of £500 we are helping a family (mum, dad and small child) who have come to Sheffield via the Afghan government resettlement scheme.  The father is currently waiting for Universal Credit and residency so that he may apply for jobs here. The mum rarely leaves the house, due to language, cultural and confidence barriers and the family are cut off from the world.  The charity that is working with them have said that a TV and TV licence would help their home life become more comfortable and link them to the outside world.  It will also be a big help as they learn English, which they are really keen to do.  Any money left over they will put towards their internet costs. 500 together are very happy to help them with this and wish them all the best in their new life in the UK.

63 - Sheffield Futures Door 43 appeal - November 2021

Today we are proud to have donated £500 to Sheffield Futures’ Big Give fundraising campaign.     The campaign opened at midday today -     30 th   November and runs for a week until midday on 7 th   December. Donations made during this public phase will be matched, meaning our £500 has automatically become £1000.   The campaign will focus on raising vital funds in order to support Sheffield Future’s Door 43 service. This is a service offering support to 13-25 year olds, integrating a range of emotional health and wellbeing support under one roof, giving young people the flexibility they need to access different specialist support services, such as counselling and other psychological therapies, awareness and advice, health clinics, group work and positive activities. Even prior to Covid, support available to young people struggling with their mental health was stretched, with long waiting lists to access NHS provision.  Today this is the case more than ever, and we know young people wer
