219 - Decluttering help and a new oven - August 2025

One of our members asked if we could support a client they are supporting through a local charity. The lady, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, has moved into a new council home after a period of sofa-surfing following the loss of her larger home. She has issues with hoarding and the process of downsizing has left her with an overwhelming amount of possessions in a storage unit. She also is low on funds at the moment from furnishing her new property, so she does not yet have a cooker and is utilising the local foodbank for easy meal options. Her mental health is suffering and she needs some professional help to sensitively address her hoarding disorder so that she can sort out her things and remove the need for her to be paying for storage. . We were asked if we could support with a £500 donation, which would be used to help with the decluttering service and also pay for a new oven/hob to allow her to be able to cook her own meals again in her own home. Both of these w...

218 - Clothing and bedding for local family - August 2025

One of our members from the amazing Darnall Wellbeing asked if we could help a local family their team has been supporting. They are a refugee family with 4 children aged 16, 14, 7 and 6. All 4 children are waiting for school places and are in need of clothing both for in and out of school. They also needed bedding and a tablet to help them with their learning and improving their English. We were pleased to send £500 for the DWB team to support the family to buy what they needed and we know they have been so grateful for our support. Thank you all for continuing to send us your weekly contributions - we know from all our recipients just what a huge difference our donations make. It is always a privilege to be able to help organisations like Darnall Wellbeing and the families they support.

217 - Minibus hire to take Shelter clients on day trip - August 2025

With donation 217 we have been pleased to help our friends at Shelter organise an event for Recovery Month. Each year Sheffield recovery community are involved with September’s Recovery month, a month of activities and events, to celebrate recovery, to raise the awareness about the possibility of recovery from substance use, promote the idea that recovery is possible for everyone and highlight the strengths of the recovery community in Sheffield. Shelter has been involved with Recovery Month for a number of years and annually they arrange activities/workshops during the month for their clients and the wider recovery community. In recent years they have taken clients out to the Peak District and have shared this photo and experiences from a previous trip to Castleton in 2023.  “Such an amazing day with beautiful people. Really empowering being out in nature.”  “Really enjoyed the day, glad I came and met new friends, thanks to Shelter for planning the trip, brought me ou...

216 - Every day essentials for a family recently arrived in Sheffield - August 2025

With this donation of £500 we have been able to help a refugee family with 6 children who have recently arrived in Sheffield. They have been housed temporarily but don't have basics like large saucepans for cooking for 8, a hoover, towels...and so much more. They are struggling to pay for food and necessary bus fares.   Everything is just very difficult.  Our member, who is involved in supporting them, asked if we could help. We have sent £500 to help them get some of the essentials they need, things they will also be able to keep and take with them to their next house, as well as being able to use some of the money for groceries. We were pleased to help, knowing they will be supported to get what they need. We are always so grateful to the organisations out there who work so hard to support families like this, who arrive from such awful conditions and face so many unexpected and unknown challenges in their new home.  The resilience of thes...

215 - Helping a young girl with an exciting opportunity - August 2025

Sometimes we have requests for help and the circumstances of the family mean the information we can publicly share is limited. Donation  215  is such a case. Our member told us about a  lady they were supporting who has experienced many years of extreme domestic abuse, has mental health issues and a history of substance abuse. They are now doing well and their daughter has been given an extraordinary opportunity to pursue an activity she has shown amazing potential in. The costs involved in being able to do this are £470 and without our donation they would not have been able to take up this opportunity.  Our team was unanimous in agreeing to support her. We hope you will understand the need to keep this announcement a little vague in order to protect the family.  Rest assured, this is a wonderful opportunity for a very talented young woman and we wish her every success.
